Coracles are probably one of the earliest forms of boat invented by man. Although their use diminished considerably in the last century as people stopped using them for fishing they still have a small but loyal fan club and their use for leisure is now growing again. The Coracle Society has a lot more info and contacts for coracles.
We built our coracles in 2001 on a course at Ironbridge organised by the Greenwood Trust and run by Terry Kenny. I’ll put some pics of the course up some time.
We did our course over the August Bank Holiday. The great thing about that is that you can then take part in the Ironbridge Coracle Regatta that happens every year on August Bank Holiday Monday. Pics to come. See you there in August.
Having got the hang of the thing we’ve now set ourselves the challenge of paddling all the way down the Thames from Cricklade to London (perhaps to Putney Bridge).
So far, we’ve covered about 70 miles. More on that when I have time.
